To Join a Group
If you are interested in joining a task force, you should contact the group Task Force key contact (see details page for that group) and plan to attend an upcoming meeting.
To join a Task Force email group, click the settings icon for that group above. If you have joined another Google group in the past, then you must login with your password, otherwise you will need to "sign-up" and create a new Google account using your email address. Once you are logged in, you will see all the groups you have joined.
A new account only requires an email address and a password of your choosing. Your account settings will allow you to control how you receive messages. One account is all you need even if you subscribe to several Sustainable Lawrence groups. Read more about Google accounts below.
Alternatively, you can join most groups by sending an email to
sl-xxx-subscribe@googlegroups.com (where "xxx" is the group name).
Group names are identified (in parenthesis) in the list above.
Some groups may require you to create a Google account first.
Likewise you can unsubscribe by emailing
sl-xxx-unsubscribe@googlegroups.com (where "xxx is the group name).
Privacy & Abuse
Only those who have joined a group can send and read messages. Your email address will only be visible to group members when you send an email. Sustainable Lawrence is able to unsubscribe and even ban members at their discretion. If you feel someone is abusing the group messaging facility, please report them to the webmaster.
Google Accounts
We use Google Groups to securely manage our group messaging in order to protect your privacy and minimize junk mail. When you join a Task Force group you will be asked to create a Google account, which is simply your email address and a password of your choosing.
When you sign-in to your Google Account, you will be able to:
- read an archive of previous group emails (organized by topic)
- manage your subscription to this and other groups
- change your email address at any time
- indicate how you wish to receive email, if at all
- remove previous messages you wrote
- and more…
Group Managers also have the ability to add people to a group if they have opted in by phone, or some other way. You will always be notified by email if you have been added this way. You will then need to create a Google Account if you wish to manage your subscription or read the online archive.

Messaging Tips
1. You don't need to save all those email messages. The group archive will store all messages indefinitely, including attachments up to 1MB.
2. You can remain in a group without receiving an email every time someone writes a message. For instance, you can choose to receive a daily digest, or nothing at all, in which case you can peruse the online archive at your convenience. Go to your groups settings control to make your choice.
3. You can receive an alert whenever a group mentions a particular keyword that interests you. To do so, look for the Google Alerts link after you sign-in to Google Groups.
