{"id":521,"date":"2015-01-28T17:10:47","date_gmt":"2015-01-28T22:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablelawrence.org\/home\/?p=521"},"modified":"2023-11-09T14:08:04","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T19:08:04","slug":"reduced-waste-challenge-at-super-bowl-xlix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainablelawrence.org\/home\/archived-posts\/reduced-waste-challenge-at-super-bowl-xlix\/","title":{"rendered":"Reduced Waste Challenge at Super Bowl XLIX"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee has teamed up with Super Bowl XLIX to announce the first \u201cReduced Waste Challenge,\u201d which will be held during the festivities accompanying the Super Bowl in the middle of downtown Phoenix.<\/p>\n<h3>Various approaches<\/h3>\n<p>The organization planning the Super Bowl-related festivities is encouraging vendors, business owners and visitors to use recyclables and reusable products to eliminate waste.<br \/>\nComposting will also be introduced on-site; bins will be set up by the Phoenix Department of Public Works. Food collected will be converted into compost. Volunteers will be on hand to assist attendees and ensure the materials are tossed into the correct bins.<\/p>\n<h3>Future Directions<\/h3>\n<p>This organics waste pilot program will serve as a test for the city of Phoenix as well as future sporting events. Because it is the first time organics collection will be introduced at the Super Bowl, the project will set a precedent for games to follow.
