Sustainable Lawrence is incredibly saddened to report the passing of Gary Mount<\/strong>, co-owner of Terhune Orchards and an original influencer with very real preservation and sustainability chops in Lawrence Township, Mercer County and in the state’s entire farming community. Gary died peacefully at his Terhune Orchards home on December 29th, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He led a remarkable life. A graduate of Princeton University, Gary went on to spend 3 impactful years in the Peace Corps in Micronesia with his wife, Pam, before purchasing Terhune Orchards in 1975.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary was a visionary farmer, preservationist, mentor, and community leader whose impact on agriculture and land conservation in New Jersey will be felt for generations. Together with his wife Pam and two daughters, he transformed Terhune Orchards from a 55-acre farm into a thriving 250-acre retail farming operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above all, Gary was devoted to his family. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, sharing farm life, planting trees, traveling together, and building lifelong traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support. His generosity, curiosity, and passion for farming and community will always be part of Terhune Orchards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
