{"id":1324,"date":"2018-11-12T10:21:25","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T15:21:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sustainablelawrence.org\/home\/?page_id=1324"},"modified":"2023-05-15T19:26:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T23:26:28","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sustainablelawrence.org\/home\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Who are we?<\/h2>\n<p>Sustainable Lawrence is a large group of residents, businesses, congregations, and other organizations dedicated to creating a sustainable community in Lawrence Township, NJ.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a &#8220;sustainable community&#8221;?<\/h2>\n<p>A community in which the present needs of all of its citizens are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.<\/p>\n<h2>What is our mission?<\/h2>\n<p>To encourage the people and institutions of Lawrence Township to cooperatively adopt fundamental principles of sustainability and to develop policies and practices that fulfill those principles.<\/p>\n<p>Read about the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainablelawrence.org\/archives\/ecomunimodel.pdf\">eco-municipality model<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What types of policies and practices do we mean?<\/h2>\n<p>For example, policies and practices that ultimately:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"listSpace\">\n<li>Reduce our community&#8217;s fossil fuel dependence and wasteful use of scarce metals and minerals;<\/li>\n<li>Reduce our community&#8217;s dependence on harmful chemicals and wasteful use of synthetic substances;<\/li>\n<li>Minimize our community&#8217;s encroachment upon nature (e.g., land, water, wildlife, forests, soil, ecosystems);<\/li>\n<li>Meet human needs fairly and efficiently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How did SL get started?<\/h2>\n<p>Sustainable Lawrence is an outgrowth of community conversations initiated and sponsored by\u00a0The Lawrence Township Community Foundation\u00a0in 2005.
