As a mom to a seven year old, I pack a lunch and a snack every single day of the school year. I use plastic bags, aluminum foil, wax paper, and a lot of single-serve items. Although it is very convenient, like most other parents, I create a lot of waste. I wish we—parents, children, teachers, schools– could do something about it.
I looked up “waste free lunches” and I found that there are a lot of good initiatives all around. One such initiative from California looks very impressive:

I’d like all you good folks to please take a look at it and try to introduce something similar in our school system.

Hi Shilpa, thanks for the great suggestion, I will take a look at this site. Have you considered using reusable snack pouches, cloth napkins, and reusable lunch containers instead of disposable items? Other ideas for reducing waste at home and at work are available here: It looks like many of the suggestions the site you suggested are excellent too!
